Benedictine Health System begins managing GlenOaks Senior Living Campus

Duluth, Minn. – Duluth-based Benedictine Health System (BHS) has assumed management of the GlenOaks Senior Living Campus, New London, Minn.
The Benedictine Health System is a not-for-profit, Catholic, health care system sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery, Duluth, Minn. Begun in 1985, BHS has grown in size and expertise from three organizations to more than 40 long term care facilities - nursing homes, assisted and independent living facilities - located in communities across seven states.
GlenOaks Senior Living Campus began as a 62-bed rehabilitation center owned by Leland and Alice Juhl and Dr. Jack and Irlys Guy in 1964. Services were expanded over the years with the construction of the Village Apartments in 1980 and six additional apartments in 1985; with Lake Region Home Health in 1985, 12 Personal Care Suites in 1990 and Adult Day Services in 1992. In April 2006, the facility was purchased from the Larry and Paula Juhl, son and daughter-in-law of the facility’s founders, by the Living Services Foundation, a non-profit Minnesota based organization.
BHS will be retaining all current employees. Larry Juhl has retired from his post as administrator. Andy Opsahl, who serves as administrator of St. Mary’s CareCenter, a BHS member organization in Winsted, Minn., is serving as interim administrator while BHS conducts a search for a new administrator.
“We are excited to be serving the residents of New London and the surrounding communities, and working with the dedicated employees at Glen Oaks,” said Steve Chies, BHS senior vice president of long term care. “We hope to bring the knowledge and expertise we have gained from managing senior living campuses across the Midwest to enhance the services at GlenOaks Senior Living Campus.”
