St. Catherine’s recognizes staff, names employee of the year

St. Catherine’s Living Center, Wahpeton, N.D., named Jerry Trupka, director of plant operations and staff development, 2011 Employee of the Year.
Voting for Employee of the Year was conducted among St. Catherine’s staff who cast their vote by submitting a paragraph describing how the employee lives out St. Catherine’s core values of Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect, and Justice.
Trupka has been an employee at St. Catherine’s since 1984. In addition to being director of plant operations he is also risk management director. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and an Emergency Preparedness Specialist. He sits on the boards of the Tri State Safety Association and the North Dakota Environmental Service Association.
Trupka’s coworkers described him as having a great attitude toward life saying: “He always has a smile and spreads his good attitude to the rest of the staff.” “Having Jerry around makes work more fun and more enjoyable for all of us.” “Jerry is truly committed to St. Catherine’s.”
The award was announced during the company’s annual Christmas celebration on Dec. 9. Votes were tabulated by administrator Emmy Tretter who is not eligible for the award. The competition is open to all employees, full- or part-time, who have worked at St. Catherine’s for at least three years and have no disciplinary action in progress.
As St. Catherine’s employee of the year, Trupka will now be nominated by St. Catherine’s for the prestigious Sr. Claudia Rehl Living a Legacy program. Living a Legacy is a Benedictine Health System project that honors employees who show special commitment to the BHS Mission and Core Values. Winners are announced in March and are honored with a plaque, a special pin and certificate, and an honorarium to be used for the individual’s self improvement.
Also during the Christmas celebration, employees of St. Catherine's were recognized recently for their dedication and years of service to the organization.
Individuals receiving service awards included: Mary Heinen, CNA, 35 years; Ramona Taylor, CNA, 30 years; Kim Bakewell, CNA, 25 years; Karen Garcia, CNA, 10 years; Tracee Meyer, culinary services, 10 years; Romel Moen, CNA, 10 years; Katie Rossow, CNA/activities, 10 years; Sandy Youngquist, director of culinary services, 10 years; Kim Crandall, director of nursing, five years; Caleb Devine, plant operations, five years; Amanda Heyda, CNA, five years; Natalie Loberg, LPN, five years; Raeanne Wolfswinkel, culinary services, five years.
